Because this episode features artist Fritz Haeg, whose Salmon Creek Farm is a long-term art project shaped by many hands, a sort of queer commune-farm-homestead-sanctuary-school hybrid. Salmon Creek Farm is a re-settlement in a former hippie commune from the 1970's in Mendocino California. With acres of land with orchards, meadows, gardens, and redwood trees, it provides for living, gathering, growing, and consists as an overall art-sustaining environment.Fritz studied as an architect and had nourished global attention as an artist with his Edible Estates, which, in its many incarnations had to do with taking yield and growing crops in otherwise unutilized greenery.Engagement with land and plants is as important as engaging with people, since Fritz has always been bringing people together, in action, in work, and exchange.The Sundown Salon, a series of meetings in a geodesic dome, or the collective rug-making sessions titled “domestic integrities” are a few projects that come to my mind. Jen Delos Reyes Jen Delos Reyes is an artist originally from Winnipeg, MB, Canada. Her research interests include the history of socially engaged art, group work, and artists' social roles. She has exhibited works across North America and Europe, and has contributed writing to various catalogues and institutional publications. She contributed writing to Decentre: Concerning Artist-Run Culture published by YYZBOOKS in 2008. In 2006 she completed an intensive workshop, Come Together: Art and Social Engagement, at The Kitchen in New York. She has received numerous grants and awards including a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Grant. Jen is the founder and director of Open Engagement, a conference on socially engaged art practice. Haeg's recent architecture projects have included the design for various residential and art projects including the contemporary art gallery peres projects and the Bernardi residence, both in Los Angeles, CA. He studied architecture in Italy at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia and Carnegie Mellon University, where he received his B. Arch.
