The Albion Roar with guests Kieran Maguire and Mark Lawrenson
The Albion Roar
Fresh from a day of talking about Chelsea and the international sanctions against owner Roman Abramovich, Kieran Maguire talks about Chelsea and the international sanctions against owner Roman Abramovich. We are also joined by Albion legend - and arguably the best player to wear the stripes, Mark Lawrenson. Shirt of the week is one of Lawro's old tops.
Mark Lawrenson | Kane in pain, Brighton's shining start, Liverpool's defensive holes
Liverpool and Ireland legend Mark Lawrenson joined Eoin Sheahan and Johnny Ward on Monday's OTB AM to discuss the talking points from this weekend's Premier League games.Lawrenson covered the poor form of Spurs, especially Harry Kane, as well as Brighton's outstanding start to the season, and how defence is becoming a real area of concern for Liverpool.#OTBAM is live every morning with @Gillette UK | #BestFaceForwardYou can subscribe to the OTB AM podcast wherever you get your podcasts across the OTB Podcast Network.via iTunesvia Spotifyvia GoLoud
We had the very great pleasure of welcoming a true Albion legend to the pod, in fact probably The Albion’s best ever player to date. He was at the heart of our rise to the top flight in ‘79 and was a rock at the back in our formative years at England’s top football table. After shining with his dazzling breaks from the back as a roving central defender in his time at The Goldstone he stepped on to even greater heights, winning the very best club trophies available with the Titans that were Liverpool FC, forming a formidable partnership with Alan Hansen. In recent years he’s been a regular pundit on BBC TV and radio but today he took time to speak to Russ, Pete, Andy B and Robin. He is Mark Lawrenson! 👏 ⚽️ 🏆 Stand or fall! UTA! Episode #33 // Deadline Day Special with Mark Lawrenson and Neil Mellor // From the Finney Podcast
From the Finney Podcast
It's been a hell of a deadline day for us here at FTF, three podcasts recorded in one evening is a record. Anyway, we were joined by Neil Mellor and Mark Lawrenson for this deadline day special episode of the From the Finney podcast. We talked about Ben Davies joining Liverpool, Sepp van den Berg joining North End as part of the same deal, and many other different things, including the potential signing of Anthony Gordon on loan from Everton which, as these things go, was confirmed after we wrapped up recording. Lawro was on form for this one so, enjoy! If you want to put your money into a local, worthy cause, then Trust House is as worthy as any. Mark Lawrenson on the science of optimization methods and solving real-world problems more optimally
In this podcast, Mark explains the science of optimization methods; the science of finding the best alternative from many alternatives. From wars, supply chain distribution to bakers and their bread to real category optimization. Mark Lawrenson has graduated with honours in mathematical applications and computations from The Australian National University and was previously a researcher at CSIRO/Data61, the world's leading Australian research and data science agency. At HIVERY Mark is the product lead of HIVERY Curate - the world’s first truly hyper-local category management solution. Mark has several patents under his name and has published many research papers, namely "A model-based genetic algorithm framework for constrained optimization problems" where he presents a new hybrid optimization framework that can be used to solve constrained optimization problems differently. What you will learn from this podcast:• When optimization or applied mathematics was first used to solve real-world problems. We go back to 1947 and George B. Dantzig, when not only the first computer program was written but also new applied mathematics methods were invented, now called linear programming.• The fascinating world of Applied Mathematics. Mark breaks down everything from Operations Research, Linear Programming (using 1 and 0.5 as inputs), Complete Methods (solving problems optimally), Heuristic Methods (solving problems faster although not always optimally), and Genetic Algorithms (inspired by nature's way of optimizing) to relatively modern methods like Integer Linear Programming (using 0, 1 or 2 as inputs). These methods have previously advanced the military to optimize the distribution of weaponry. Now, these methods are used by commercial industries and have found their way into category management to ensure the right products are in the right, specific shelf space at the right, specific store.• Mark goes deep into explaining his fascinating research: "A model-based genetic algorithm framework for constrained optimisation problems"; and his new framework that solves real-world problems differently and more efficiently.• Why HIVERY Curate (formally HIVERY Propel) is different to any other planogram category management optimization solution out there. Mark explains how he has applied and combined optimization techniques (i.e. how much of product X to put on that specific shelf in that specific store) with machine learning methods (what product to put (X or Y or Z) on that specific shelf in that specific store) along with the secret ingredient; the constraints that make HIVERY Curate category recommendations realistic and implementable at a store-level.• If you are interested in learning about how our world can be run more efficiently, love maths and solving real-world problems. This is a must-listen.Resources:https://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-lawrenson/ https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3067695.3076041 https://news.stanford.edu/news/2005/may25/dantzigobit-052505.html
