This week on the BOX...

DJ is having a little trouble with... cucumbers.  Yup.  He uses the beloved vegetable to illustrate just how f**ked up his body became post-antidepressants, And how important it is to just let your body heal.  Especially these days.

DJ also talks a lot about songwriting; especially as it pertains to chasing your own "hits".  He walks us through the trap he fell into trying to redo "San Jose" and how some tough production love led to a much better "Wailo".  He also has a lot to say about the new R9 record and how hard it was to write from scratch again, but maintains that, sometimes, it's the only way to make something truly new.

Why Incubus is great, DJ's daddy issues, and a whole lot of gratitude for the people still sticking around and MORE!

This week on the BOX...

DJ's hit Frustration Level: Critical, and even considered not doing the show so as not to be a complete asshat on air.  But when has that ever stopped him?  He soldiers on and breaks down how his capacity to handle "every day annoyances" is completely shot because of the underlying allotment of other things stressing him out.  He's also got a real problem with Kansas.

DJ also has a lot to say about bands working together - exclusively; why it's an inevitable detriment to themselves and a problem for any sense of actual "community" among neighboring bands.  He also describes how he's been painted in that very same light before, why it was inaccurate then, as well as now, and what those actual differences are.

Considering more gathering for the stupid, losing Soundgarden, being in "like a wave" like a boss and MORE!

This week on the BOX...

DJ is tired. all. the. time.  He also points out that even "gentle wake" alarm clocks still wake you - duh.

He talks a lot about the "a lot" of work there is in a band - and kinda how there is supposed to be, but apparently only for a select few.  He says there is literally "no end" to the work if you are at all interested in, or responsible for, the overall development of the band you're in.  And if you're not constantly doing something, you're probably not very helpful or instrumental in the bands progress, are you?

DJ also manages to get into a fight with fiverr over their seller-centric policies, and takes one of the customer service reps to task for suggesting that he should be more in touch via technology - even over a holiday weekend.  DJ basically tells them to go eff themselves, and may or may not imply that this is just another example of why people don't like twenty-somethings.

Tattoo requirements in "Something Heavy", John Benoit has a new project, a brief history of R9 cover songs and MORE!

This week on the BOX...

What The F happened last week?

DJ explains it all - kinda.  He goes into some detail about what happened to the BOX computer last week, how crappy his general IT situation is - despite working in IT - and the remarkable mess the current BOX studio is because of his "ability" to just throw stuff together and have it magically work.  (Yes, there are pictures on instagram @revel9band)

DJ also talks about local band "competition" - the fun kind - especially when it comes to selling tickets to the same show that all his friends are on.  He discusses how those kind of shows came to be, why he still does them and what a ridiculous value it is for the local fan.  And how that translates to being better for everyone.

Which 'Bamboozle' band had the worst live performance, how awesome Sevendust has always been, getting fatter after skipping a single gym day and MORE!

This week on the BOX...

Why couldn't the ghost have kids?  ---Because he had a Halloweenie!

Yup... It's Halloween AF but the BOX must go on!  DJ talks about his recent physical and how couldn't do the eye test because of an abundance of eye "boogies". <- technical term.  He quickly changes gears to attack "helicopter" parents and very definitely "lawn mower" parents and any of the Jersey towns that are putting Halloween off for a day because "it might rain". Jeeeee-Zus.

DJ also has a lot to say about songwriting and how it felt differently once he started "opening it all up".  He talks about the connection he was able to make with listeners once the writing started coming from very personal places - and he realized it's because other people can really "get it" if you bother to "say it".  He traces back through his own discography to try and find the first song he truly did this with, and lands on a Gee Davey Classic.

Why Pablo from Charetta is the best kind of hard ass, the major fight DJ is ready for with Charlotte's school, DJ's latest social media "win" and MORE!

This week on the BOX...

DJ talks R9 recording... sorta.  He discusses why it takes so long for an R9 record to get through production and why it SHOULD take so long.  He explains that anyone doing a record over a weekend - unless they are classic punk - isn't doing a very good record.

He talks a little bit about his latest article in Total Order Magazine ("A Lesson In Failure"), but spends more time on Jarrett's column, especial the part about "an ego never grows smaller".  He has an open discussion about the difference between "ego" and "confidence" and tries to cite hard, public, examples of each.

His band-crush on Alkaline Trio carries on into yet another week and he takes a minute to reflect on the littlest things that have the ability to make a recording truly great!

Andy's back, failing at P90x, the coming Vextion show and MORE!

This week on the BOX...  No one's order at Starbucks is safe!

DJ offers a formal, 18-minute-long apology (with an asterisk) to Mr. "FORHERE" for swiping his egg-thing this morning.  He does however manage to blame the Starbucks employees for poorly grouping orders at the mobile order station, and definitely faults "Brenda" for being a typical lazyass, entitled and in-the-way white chick and is pretty sure the world, let alone his mobile order, would have been better off if she had just decided to never have been born.

Also, DJ is full-on paleo, and would consider eating a caveman under the right circumstances, has a bunch of REVEL 9 updates and got his ass kicked at HERricane practice last night.

Upcoming show information, Andy's last-minute, phoned-in, Learning report, a suckle of my zipple and MORE!
