We're sure we don't need to tell you how beneficial pilates is. You more than likely already know. However, what about the idea of doing it during a getaway to a gorgeous climate, aboard an incredible atmospheric pirate ship, out on the ocean?

Jill Robinson joins Colin and Lizzie to talk about her story starting off in a draining corporate job, eventually becoming the founder of Organic Pilates

During this chat, you'll hear her inspirational story of how she took the plunge and quit the rat race to grab life by the horns, and thrive in the world of holistic health.

After a thankless job in the city, she overcame her fears and grabbed a venue she didn't think she could afford.

Since then, she's gone from strength to strength.

During the conversation, you'll hear her thoughts about pilates, and what she believes she can offer, that the average pilates instructor isn't able to.

Jill's been teaching fitness for over 20 years. She's also got the credentials to back it up, with the following accreditations:

CHEK Exercise Coach

CHEK Practitioner Level 1

CHEK Holistic Lifestyle Coach II

Jill Robinson is the founder of Animals Asia, one of the most pioneering and inspiring animal welfare organisations in the world today. Jill has worked in animal welfare for over 30 years but in 1993, a visit to a bear farm in southern China changed her life forever.

In 1998, she created Animals Asia to end the barbaric practice of bear bile farming and improving the welfare of animals in China and Vietnam by promoting compassion and respect for all animals, and working to bring about long-term change.

In this episode, Jill chats with Harry and Matt about her early life and where her love of animals came from. Her journey to Hong Kong and a chance encounter on a beach that opened the door to animal welfare. She talks about the bear bile trade and what it was like to start an organisation and how Animals Asia has grown over the years, and the incredible work it does.

Jill Robinson has been a pioneer of animal welfare in Asia since 1985, widely recognised as the world’s leading expert on the bear bile industry, having campaigned against it since 1993. UK born, Jill arrived in Hong Kong in 1985 and spent 12 years working for the International Fund for Animal Welfare. She founded “Dr Dog” in 1991, the first animal-therapy programme in Asia. More than 1,000 dogs have since qualified as "therapists", visiting hospitals, disabled centres, schools and elderly homes in cities across Asia. In 1993, a visit to a “bear farm” in China defined Jill’s future. Exposing the plight of endangered Asiatic black bears cruelly farmed for bile extraction, Jill embarked on a journey to end the practice. In 1998, she founded Animals Asia, an organisation devoted to ending bear bile farming in China and Vietnam and bring about long-term change for animals by promoting compassion and respect. Today, Animals Asia has rescued over 600 bears, caring for them at its award-winning bear sanctuaries in China and Vietnam, and has signed a formal agreement with the Vietnam government to end bear bile farming by 2022

Ep 20 - Jill Robinson - Ending Bear Bile Farms

Play

Jill is the founder and CEO of the incredible non-profit organization Animals Asia. She heads Animals Asia's team of over 300 enthusiastic staff.

Jill founded Animals Asia in 1998. This was five years after an encounter with a caged bear, on a farm in southern China, changed her life forever. Ever since, there has been no going back.

Animals Asia is one of the only non-profits that is close to reaching the goal they set out to achieve -  to end bear bile farms. This is an admirable achievement -  only through intervention, education, and perseverance can one achieve the results Jill has.

To date Animals Asia has saved over 600 bears, giving them a second chance at life and a life worth living. Jill has the only bear sanctuary in China, which in itself is an achievement, and has worked closely with the government of China to help these bears. She says we should not completely disregard & dismiss traditional Chinese medicine (which is where the bile is primarily used) -  but that the medicinal benefits these medicines do have can be easily replaced by ingredients from plants, eliminating the need to harm these animals.

Over the years she has seen a shift in attitude towards animals in China & the rest of Asia, When she started there were no animal nonprofits, now there are over 200. This is certainly a move in a positive direction.

I had a great time talking to Jill, and I urge you to listen to her talk about a plan 30 years in the making. Success in all forms does not occur overnight, it takes time & perseverance to achieve one's goals, Jill is an excellent example of this exact thing
