Baby Shark Himself, Gerardo Parra Joins the Podcast
Gerardo 'Baby Shark" Parra took the Nation's Capital by storm in 2019 when he joined the Nats mid-season and started a local phenomenon with his walk-up song that then inspired Shark costumes throughout Navy Yard. He joins Tim & Todd to tell them about his World Series tattoo, hugging Stephen Strasburg, and if he will bring the song with him to Japan. Also in this episode, hear Todd's conversation with Nats hitting coach Kevin Long on how his approach will change in 2020 as the team looks to defend its title. Finally, Tim gives his Hall of Fame predictions.
Much to Pottymouth’s delight, Patti finally embraces “Baby Shark.” Not as a song, of course, but as a builder of fan unity. This leads to a whole slew of rules, suggestions, and musings about fan participation (the Stretch is compulsory, but leave your Chop at home). Patti’s Cleveland BF Jose Ramirez is on a tear, making that early-season pick of league MVP not so ridiculous. Pottymouth’s Os BF Jonathan Villar is knocking it out of the park, showing off sexy defense, stealing bases and contributing to a historic (in a good way) week for the Orioles. Steve Wilkerson recorded the first save ever by a position player and won Patti a pizza. Mookie/Pookie Betts is showing his boyfriend cred on and off the field. Meet the Atlantic League, home of robot umps, stealing first base, and the consistent grip baseball. Pottymouth encourages support of DC Girls Baseball, or the team nearest you, as girls across the country head to Rockford, IL for the Baseball For All National Tournament. 8-year-old Ashlynn Therien will be there. We show some love for community baseball as Kelli Jenkins becomes the first female to play in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League, for the Bethesda Big Train, currently battling your NCIB Hosts home team, the SS - Takoma Thunderbolts, for the championship. Go to a local game, and maybe win a pizza.
Where was Michael Brantley when Patti had a flat tire? Turns out he was rescuing other strangers in distress closer to Minute Maid Park, as boyfriends do. Pottymouth’s old Dodger BF Kiké Hernandez works some magic for her new BF Justin Turner. Addison Frickin’ Russell is back. The Panda = Mudcat+Bees. Albert Pujols historic RBI mark set off a new set of NCIB Rules, this time on catching baseballs in the stands. Gerardo Parra announces his arrival with the Nats with sexy defense and a slam. In part 2 of our interview with Jenn Rubenstein of Queer Fancy Stats, we discuss LGBTQ Nights Out at Ballparks, why they are important, and who does them right.
The boys talk some Gerardo Parra, potential outcomes for the outfield logjam and look at what will happen next with Kyle Parker and Ben Paulsen. Plus, Isaac is now a partial owner of the Armidale Outlaws, Logan reflects on that one time with Dustin Garneau and Isaac mourns the many disappointing top draft picks the Rockies have had over the years.
