Dopey 370: The Return of John Joseph on surviving deep family trauma, the Navy, drug dealing, dust, crack, LSD, fighting, Hare Krishna, Punk Rock and the PMA Affect
Dopey: On the Dark Comedy of Drug Addiction
This week on Dopey! Dopey Nation rejoice in the return of John Joseph to the show! In this weeks episode you will finally hear basically everything that was cut out of the last John Joseph appearance! More on his book - the PMA affect, the end of the Cro-Mags and how he strives to stay positive in the wake of insane trauma. Plus! Emails, an extended phone call from my dad and a weird bit from Washington Square Park. All that and more on an all new episode of the good ol' Dopey show. About Dopey: Dopey Podcast is the world’s greatest podcast on drugs, addiction and dumb shit. Chris and I were two IV heroin addicts who loved to talk about all the coke we smoked, snorted and shot, all the pills we ate, smoked, all the weed we smoked and ate, all the booze we consumed and all the consequences we suffered. After making the show for 2 and a half years, Chris tragically relapsed and died from a fentanyl overdose. Dopey continued on, at first to mourn the horrible loss of Chris, but then to continue our mission - which was at its core, to keep addicts and alcoholics company. Whether to laugh at our time in rehab, or cry at the worst missteps we made, Dopey tells the truth about drugs, addiction and recovery. We continually mine the universe for stories rife with debauchery and highlight serious drug taking and alcoholism. We also examine different paths toward addiction recovery. We shine a light on harm reduction and medication assisted treatment. We talk with celebrities and nobodies and stockpile stories to be the greatest one stop shop podcast on all things drugs, addiction, recovery and comedy!

We have a plethora of leadership advice and help available to us in today’s business and personal cultures. I think we all assume that everyone wants to experience strong healthy leadership in some form. But that assumption was challenged recently by a wise leader with whom I had the pleasure of talking. He suggested that some people are not at a point of hearing or applying leadership practices. His thought was that before we start trying to lead others, we need to stop and think about where they are in their lives. Are they experiencing fear, hopelessness or loss? Are they just trying to survive in this wacky world in which we live? Do we truly care about people more than we care about leading? This brilliant and insightful leader is John Joseph. He thinks deeply and practically at the same time. While he has numerous leadership accolades, it is his depth and vulnerability that make him truly inspirational.John is my guest on this edition of my Crossing The Line podcast. Do yourself a favor and listen to or watch John’s interview. I came away from my time with him truly enriched and I think you will too.Take the time to invest in more than just leadership and you will make a difference.eaglecenterforleadership.com

Episode 66. John Joseph Of CroMags / Bloodclot.John Joseph life has had more ups and downs and turns than any world class rollercoaster. In this brief conversation, we talked about where he drew his strength and adversity to fight past his addictions and drive himself towards success. Many people fall victim to vices and never overcome or rise above it, but for John, he survived, he overcame and he pushed himself even harder when the CroMags fell apart. His story is outlined in his first book, Evolution of a CroMagnon, so I won't give you the bio, but we go into some cracks where we can hear more of his tale there and we go beyond into, into the drive towards his multi discipline training for the Ironman competitions he lives for. He has published 5 books and is working on his 6th, he is working on tv and movie scripts and he is also working as a life coach. As he approaches 60, he is still pursuing music with Bloodclot, which will have new music in the coming year. Many of John's peers didn't make it to 30 or 50, while he is healthier physically and mentally than most half his age.I love his story, I consider him to be a good friend and we had a great conversation.www.johnjosephdiscipline.com/ www.bloodclot.bandcamp.com/ www.twitter.com/jjcromag www.instagram.com/johnjosephcromagOpening Track of the Episode - Berthold City " Only Truth Wins"off their Debut LP "When Words Are Not Enough" Available March 18, 2022on War Recordswww.bertholdcityhc.bandcamp.com www.war-rec.com/
On this episode of OBH we talk to New York Hardcore legend John Joseph! John talks about his childhood coming up in foster care and the streets of NYC. We discuss the current Covid situation and the one sided narrative derived from silencing people with opposing views. John has a lot to say on this topic and we were excited to give him a platform to talk, especially since many conversations like this are being censored. John also tells an awesome story about touring with Bad Brains and another story about being on tour with Motörhead. John agreed, and jumped over the low fence towards the back of the garden. He was followed closely by Lorcan who was carrying a sack, rolled up in one of his hands.Once both boys were over the fence and in the back field they made their way over to a large set of bushes out of sight of the houses from where they’d come from. There was a hole in the ground in front of them, and Lorcan told John to go and look inside.Lorcan then slowly pulled out a wooden club, and silently bent down towards the young boy in front of him...www.patreon.com/REDRUMtruecrimeSHOW NOTES:David Malone's book here https://www.abebooks.co.uk/9781845967888/Boy-Attic-Chilling-Real-Life-Story-1845967887/plphttps://theheelersdiaries.blogspot.com/2012/04/top-ten-cover-ups-in-ray-darcys-liberal.htmlhttps://dialogueireland.wordpress.com/2011/10/19/public-servant-and-pillar-of-the-church-guilty-of-the-nations-most-gruesome-ever-ri…
Life In The Stocks Episode 235 features the one and only John Joseph from Cro-Mags, Bloodclot, and now a multi-published author with FIVE books to his name. We had a great conversation, too. We talk about how adversity builds character, the PMA effect, spirituality, endurance, addiction & recovery, and John shares lots of old New York stories and tales of running wild as a kid, freebasing, robbing drug dealers, and ultimately getting clean & sober. It's a great talk that's guaranteed to entertain & inspire.Follow me on Facebook / Twitter / Instagram: @mattstocksdjCheck out the Life In The Stocks Patreon page, support this podcast, and get all kinds of extras in return, from bonus podcasts & DJ mixes to archive print interviews & radio shows. www.patreon.com/lifeinthestocksMy first book, 'Life In The Stocks: Veracious Conversations with Musicians & Creatives (Vol. 01)' is also out NOW and is available via Amazon, Waterstones, Blackwell's & Rare Bird Publishing. https://rarebirdlit.com/life-in-the-stocks-veracious-conversations-with-musicians-creatives/ Hosted on Acast.
