S1E1 Stef doesn't know she's meeting Richard Morris
Blind Mate with Stef Hanson
This week on Blind Mate Stef doesn't know she's meeting Richard Morris. Richard is a racing driver, former international fencer (the sport not the garden variety) and co-founder of Racing Pride, a movement launched to positively promote LGBTQ+ inclusivity within the motorsport industry and among its technological and commercial partners but Stef doesn't know that either.About Richard MorrisRichard Morris is a professional racing driver currently competing for CW Performance Praga in the 2021 Britcar Endurance Championship in an all-carbon Praga R1 turbo prototype car. Richard has already taken multiple wins in the series this year. Richard has been racing since he was 12 years old. A successful career in karting was followed by two seasons in Formula Ford single-seater cars, which led to him finishing as Vice Champion in class in the British Championship despite budget constraints forcing him to miss multiple races. This earned him the opportunity to become works driver for prototype team Spire Sports Cars, with which he had huge success, claiming 15 podiums from 22 races, and winning at 3 out of 4 meetings in a 2020 season disrupted by Covid. He is also Co-Founder of Racing Pride: a movement to positively promote LGBTQ+ inclusion through motorsport.Instagram: @richardmorrisracingWebsite: richardmorrisracing.comAbout Stef HansonStef’s Dad once said, “I can’t believe you get paid to talk. I’ve been trying to shut you up for years!” It’s funny, because she can’t believe it either. Stef is passionate about many things, sport, being a major part of her life, so much so, that she launched her own multimedia platform dedicated to women in triathlon. But, at the heart of what drives and excites her, is learning about people and helping tell their stories. Whether that be a professional athlete at the pinnacle of their game, or, a stranger at a bar who just seems interesting, but she’s not sure why … yet. With over a decade of experience working and owning space in the sports media world, Stef is looking forward to learning more about strangers from all walks of life, not limited to lycra.Instagram: @stefhansonWebsite: Witsup.comLUDUSLUDUS pioneer ground-breaking athlete and expert-led digital content, video clinics, podcasts and feature series.LUDUS gives athletes and experts the opportunity to create and develop programs and products with a lasting community and social impact.Head to theludus.co to sign up today for your free membership with full access to all the mini-clinics.@theludusdotco

Taking to the track in the Praga for the 2021 Britcar Endurance Championship, following a successful career to date, Richard Morris isn’t our only guest on the podcast who first caught the racing bug at a friend’s karting party. Creating valuable relationships and building a strong network is something he prides himself on, which in recent years led him to become a works driver for sports prototype team, Spire Sports Cars. In this conversation, Richard candidly shares with us how it had been harder for him to be open about his sexuality in motorsport, than in other areas of his life - horrifically even at one point having had homophobic abuse written on his kart in permanent marker. Committed to championing the LGBTQ+ community both on and off the track, in 2019 Richard co-founded the innovative movement and network, Racing Pride, which strives to promote inclusivity within motorsport.Find Richard on Instagram @RichardMorrisRacing and Twitter @RichardMRacing. Jean Parker Phifer describes the Richard Morris Hunt Memorial. This striking, curved monument on the Park's eastern perimeter honors Richard Morris Hunt, the first American to study at Paris' ecole des Beaux-Arts. He returned to New York and went on to become the city's most prominent architect of his time. His work includes the columned facade of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, just 12 blocks north of his memorial. Unveiled in 1898, the piece was created by Daniel Chester French, the same sculptor behind the massive monument to Abraham Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. In Central Park, the Hunt monument is approached by three steps and features a central bust of the architect. A semicircular portico and curved bench support decorative columns and a cornice. At each end stands a female figure, allegorical statues of Architecture, and Painting, and Sculpture. Inscriptions on the structure name the organizations for which Hunt either founded or made significant contributions.
