Paths to Texas Judicial Selection Reform | Chief Justice Tom Phillips
Texas Appellate Law Podcast
The mixing of politics and judicial selection has been a part of Texas history from the beginning. Political parties continue to influence judicial appointments and elections, and money is always a significant factor. In recent years, though, many have sought to reform the system. In this week's episode, former Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Tom Phillips joins Todd Smith and Jody Sanders to discuss the various reform efforts, including the work of the Texas Commission on Judicial Selection. Chief Justice Phillips explains the history of how Texas picks its judges, the potential reforms, and the downsides to different systems. He also shares his encyclopedic knowledge of political and judicial history to put the debate in context.Love the show? 15. No One Can Stop You When You Believe In Yourself With Filmmaker Tom Phillips
Scars From The Field
In this episode I have a great conversation with my friend and independent filmmaker Tom Phillips from Yonkers, NY. Tom is the writer, director and producer of the film Between Wars starring Michael Imperioli, Harley Flanagan ( founder of the band Cro-Mags), Sean Nugent, Dominic Chianese Jr. and James Huddleston. This is a film about a man that comes home from war in Afghanistan back to his home in the Bronx. However he struggles to live a normal life due to PTSD. This is a film that Tom has made success on a micro budget, filming over the course of only 9 days with 15 hours each day. His story of film and his passion for the art is absolutely amazing. During this conversation we talk about how he got into filmmaking and why it is so important to him. We also discuss fatherhood and being a role model for our children.Tom Phillips InstagramBetween Wars InstagramBetween Wars WebsiteBetween Wars Interview with Michael O'Keefe featuring Michael ImperioliMichael Imperioli and Harley Flanagan Discuss Between Wars With Tom PhillipsCro-Mags Between Wars Music Video
