Daniel Johnston - The Tortured Artist, and Mental Health
Contemplative Art & Sound
Check out today's Podcast!Today we tackle a very challenging subject. It's a subject that's a bit taboo, but we ask the question "Is it okay that we encourage and glorify tortured artists to suffer?"Of course, this challenging question doesn't have an easy answer, and we never seem to come to one. But we ask a lot of challenging things. Why do we glorify the tortured artist? Why do we feel this need to constantly think of people who are not "Tortured" as being lesser artists? Does struggling with mental illness necessitate better art, or does it maybe slow the production of art down? Should we, instead of glorifying the tortured artist, offer them support systems, community, and love instead? We do dive deep into these questions, and this episode is a heavy topic, so take your time listening to it and chewing on it. If there's anything we said that's tough, or you didn't like, we're sorry and we didn't mean any harm by any discussion, we're more interested in seeing people find help. If you struggle with mental illness, please, seek help and seek relationship.Kim can be found on Instagram @kimstartup, Josiah @josiahalbers and Isaac @isaacpeltz.
