Doug Ford and Dr. David Williams get scorched over their COVID response
We interrupt this podcast for The WRIT Race!
One month before Christmas 2020 and Ontario's Auditor General dropped a lump of coal in Doug Ford's and David Williams' stockings. Bonnie Lysyk issued a scathing report on the provincial response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Lysyk says the province was not only ill prepared, it failed to learn important lessons from the SARS crisis in 2003. And the AG said, in no uncertain terms, criticized Dr. Williams as the Chief Medical Officer of Health for not leading Ontario's response to COVID-19.
The B Team is fighting about Doug Ford's new plans to restrict social gatherings and his Covid testing plans that they have for local pharmacies. This gets podcast gets heated! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Ontario's premier won a landslide election in 2018, but by the end of last year his approval rating was underwater. It's fair to say that when COVID-19 began, Ontarians were skeptical of his leadership. Six months later, though, Ford's approval is sky high. So what happened? Did Ford rise to the challenge or just beat low expectations? Has he really changed minds or is this just a crisis bump? What did Ford do right and wrong over the past six months? And what's next for a leader who could be right back on shaky ground if his plan to reopen schools ends in disaster? GUEST: Nick Taylor-Vaisey, Maclean's
How Doug Ford undermines anti-racist work in Ontario
MPP Michael Coteau joins Alvin and Alexi to talk about the Ford government's response to the events of the last week, Doug Ford's attitude towards approaches to racism, and how anti-racist institutions and police oversight measures have been cut.
"I stood up here for the last week taking bullets for them. Well, enough is enough." That was Doug Ford's reaction to accusations that inspectors with the Ontario Public Service Employees Union refused to go into long-term care homes to perform inspections. OPSEU President Smokey Thomas says the inspections had "zero value." Hosts Steve Paikin and John Michael McGrath discuss the allegations, the concerns, and response from the union.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
