Pilots are calling for the government to give tax relief on redundancy payments while Covid-19 continues.The global shutdown has seen a majority of pilots grounded or out of work. Many are turning to part time jobs of stacking shelves and food delivery.Former Virgin Australian pilot Michael Kenyon has started a petition asking for tax relief from the Government.He told Kate Hawkesby that they are looking for a temporary relief, as redundancy payments can be taxed as high as 33 per cent.However, Kenyon says that this isn't just for pilots - he wants the relief to be applied to all people affected by redundancy."I've got a lot of mates who are pilots, but we've got cabin crew, staff from airports, from Auckland to every court in the country, who are facing what we're facing." He says that many people aren't able to access welfare, and the high tax affects what they earn for the rest of the year.
