Paul Rabil & Rob Pannell Improve Production, Connor Fields Struggles & More (LaxFactor Podcast #168)
Lax Factor Lacrosse Podcast
I'm from Upstate NY so I'm naturally a big Connor Fields fan. When he found himself on the bench last season I couldn't believe it as the Chaos thrived without him. So in this episode I'm going to dive into the PLL stats a bit to see how this could happen. How could one of the most skilled attack on planet earth have trouble getting on the field in the Premier Lacrosse League. As part, we'll also talk about some geezers in the league that struggled in 2020, but have been playing really tough in 2021, Paul Rabil and Rob Pannell. Both put up stinkers last year, but have been incredible so far this season. We'll also talk about a few PLL rookies. I'll quickly profile Mac O'Keefe (Penn State), Jeff Teat (Cornell) and Jake Carroway (Georgetown). All three were highly touted and each has had a measure of success thus far in 2021. PLL Opening Weekend Was Incredible, Grant Ament & Rob Pannell Did Battle (LaxFactor Lacrosse Podcast #110)
Lax Factor Lacrosse Podcast
The opening weekend of the Premier Lacrosse League went down as expected. We saw a bunch of good games, all pretty close, and last nights Atlas/Archers game is being called by some, the best pro lacrosse game of all time. I don't buy that, but it was pretty exciting. We saw Grant Ament score 3 goals with a dish in his first PLL outing. Rob Pannell looked good going for a goal and 3 assists in his opener and then putting up 1 & 2 in his matchup last night against the Archers. Bryan Costabile also factored heavily for the Atlas which was good to see. S3E16 - PLL Championship Series Is Finally Here Featuring Rob Pannell
The Crease Dive
On this week's episode, the PLL Championship Series is finally upon us. And to celebrate this glorious occasion, the boys are joined by 30-year-old rookie Rob Pannell of the Atlas [27:56-55:40]. But first, the fellas get into a heated debate about ankle socks in lacrosse [2:15-16:00], as well as the #PayUpKyle saga [16:05-20:05]. Finally we wrap things up with our PLL weekend preview of the first 3 games of the season this weekend [56:00-1:09:35].
Today I talked with Rob Pannell. Rob played lacrosse at Cornell where he was 3x Ivy League Player of the Year, 4x First Team All-Ivy League, ESPY Nominee for Best Collegiate Athlete, Tewaaraton Trophy winner, and finished college 4th in All-Time points in a career. After college, Rob entered the MLL draft and was selected 1st overall to the NY Lizards where he only exceled even more winning MVP, setting the single season points (78), and becoming 6x All-Start in the MLL. Rob now is playing in the PLL on the Atlas Lacrosse Club.
He has tested himself on the lacrosse field, he has tested himself in his preparation and now we are putting his statement to the test. "My favorite movie. Can recite the whole thing." We're going ballistic with Rob Pannell and Top Gun.
While the inaugural PLL season was in full swing, Rob Pannell was watching from afar. Considered one of the best players on the planet, Pannell was locked into a multi-year contract with the MLL (02:35-10:16). Over a glass of 1942 tequila, Rob talks about how he wanted to join the PLL (11:51-19:54), why he only considers a few players “great” in the league (32:31-35:05) and his mindset heading into the 2020 season (20:31-25:12).Rob also makes it clear - he’s now the fittest in the league (38:50-42:09).Please rate and review and leave a question you’d like us to ask an athlete on future shows.
